Lab Beneath Stark Industries, Sunday Afternoon

The War Machine armor had taken a significant enough hit in a fight that Rhodey wasn't able to patch it up on his own. Which was annoying on a few levels for Tony. One, that Rhodey could have gotten hurt. Another that Tony should have been there to help him.

Tony made a face, rereading the assessment of the damage for a third time before starting to get some tools together.

"JARVIS, has the lab in East Village been touched?"

"No, sir. Shall I inform Lieutenant colonel Rhodes of your plan?"

Tony grinned up at the ceiling. "You know me so well, sweetheart. Tell him I'll be there within the hour. Help him shake any tails if you'd be so kind."

Tony smiled back at him, reassuring as best he could. "Yeah, but the island is... sort of it's own place."

"Yeah, I know." Trust him, he did. His whole brain was categorized different from before just because the island was weird. "So. Where to, Mr. Stark?"

"My lab is..." He took a dizzying moment to get his bearings with CCTV and the city map in his brain. "Due east. Might be a bit dusty. I can't remember the last time I was there." Then added as he made his way in that direction, "Mr. Barnes."

Bucky had already had a 'Tony' almost slip out once or twice today. He'd get there. At some point.

Right now, he was looking around as he followed along. Getting his bearings. "You have a lot of labs?"

"Had," Tony corrected, keeping away from the general flow of traffic. "Most were raided by SHIELD. They're a... sort of international law enforcement agency. Or espionage. Depends who you ask."

Oh, Bucky would have more than enough time in his life to get sick of SHIELD.

"And which view is yours?"

They really were the... good-ish guys.

"A little of both. Would prefer it wasn't currently run by a psychopath who wants my head on a pike, though."

They better not run into Nick here. It'd just get awkward.

For so many reasons.

"... That's quite the description."

There would be squinting and not even subtle remarks about losing an eye.

"That's Norman Osborn."

"I'll make a note of that name." Not that he'd do much with it, probably. He was still looking around. It was unsettling, really, the way things looked familiar yet not.

"Ridiculous," he muttered mostly to himself.

And Tony was keeping a wary eye out for anyone who might be unsavory or want to, you know, turn him into the proper authorities.

"What's so ridiculous?"

Might want to shelf that conversation for now, boys. It would seem that a certain group was either on the look out for Stark or just got really lucky today. Because a certain snake themed villainess was here to knock you both out for some friendly kidnapping.

Really friendly.

Into the sewer.

Yeah, Bucky would have to forgive him for this bullshit. But, oddly enough, that wasn't Tony's first thought as he came, arms tied behind his back on the floor of a suspiciously spacious sewer.

New York. Go figure.

"...Barnes?" he whispered, trying to see in the dim light.

Bucky's head hurt. At first, there was nothing but blackness, and it didn't get much better even as he swam back to consciousness. But, his eyes blinked open.

"–– the hell?" he asked, weakly. Mostly addressing himself, really.

"Oh, thank god," Tony breathed, trying to shuffle closer to him. "Can you move?"

"A little?" Bucky offered, after checking. So, that was great. His head hurt and his arms were tied. "What the hell, Tony?"

Sure, now he went there.

"We'll get you out of here," Tony promised, giving himself the start of a headache as he strained to catch any wireless signal down here. "I promise."

"You shouldn't make promises you can't keep, Iron Man."

Hope you were expecting a chat with Madame Hydra today, boys. Because that's what was happening as the rest of the Serpent Society sort of fanned out around her, covering any potential escape routes.

Sorry not sorry.

Yeah, that was exactly what Bucky wanted to see while he was doing his best to feel whether he could somehow untie his arms.

Not.

"Who the hell is this?"

Creepy snake people. It was creepy snake people. Because Tony's life was awful.

"Madame Hydra," Tony said through gritted teeth. "Did we have an appointment? My assistant has been on leave."

Tony, why are you like this?

She glanced over at one of the ridiculously costumed people and then back at Tony to smile viciously as he was yanked up onto his feet by said ridiculously costumed individual with a hand on his throat.

"You should learn to hold your tongue unless you want to face the consequences."

"Hey!" Bucky snapped. From the floor.

Steve wasn't the only Brooklynite who couldn't always judge a situation for one where he should shut up for his own safety.

So much was explained about him there. So, so much.

Tony looked a little panicked as Madame Hydra turned her attention over onto Barnes. She was more Strucker's creature than Red Skull's, so he might not ring any bells? "James," he choked out really hoping he'd get the hint.

"Now isn't the time to play hero," she told Bucky, frowning a little as she tried to place the sense of recognition.

A flick of her hand had Stark dropped from Rattler's grip.

Yep. All snake themed names. Awesome.

Bucky had just been about to say "You should let us go!" when, well. Rattler let Tony go.

So he just kind of gave a gasp in sympathy instead.
