White House Lawn, Washington D.C. - Saturday Afternoon
Iron Man | For someone who lived for the future, Tony was finding himself more and more often three steps behind what was going on around him. So, when he and his reduced team got the call that something was happening on the White House lawn, he honestly wasn't even surprised anymore. He really wasn't. "Thor, can you clear the stage for us?" Tony asked, hovering just over where Steve and a collection of costumed people were fighting against Norman's team of thugs and monsters. When had either of them even had time to recruit those people? Never mind that now. |
Thor | Thor smirked at that, swinging Mjolnir to call up a storm, dark clouds gathering rapidly just above him. "It would be my great pleasure," he told Tony with a laugh before suddenly dropping from the sky. When he landed there was a deafening crack of thunder and flash of lightning that sent all assembled parties on the ground flying backwards. |
Miss Marvel | Carol flashed Tony a look as people toppled backwards like bowling pins below them. "Sometimes I forget what he's capable of." |
Iron Man | "Right?" Tony replied, heading down to join Thor and put a stop to this fight before it got even worse than it already was. Which would be a feat considering how terrible things were going so far. "Everyone stand down." |
Hawkeye | "Aw, c'mon," Clint said from a pile of purple a few yards away from where Thor and Tony were standing. |
Venom | And on the other side, there was a weakly hissed, "Ssspider-maaaaan?" Because Venom was nothing if not predictable. Bless his heart. |
Captain America | To be fair, this had really not been Steve's plan, either. "I am not fighting all of you." It wasn't that he couldn't. He just refused. He didn't really want to fight any of you. Well. Norman's bunch of obvious supervillains, sure, but not under these circumstances. |
Iron Man | They did suck, it was true. Tony waited until Carol joined them on the ground to lower his hands, powering down the repulsors for now. "You're not?" |
Captain America | Steve wanted to say, sarcastically, 'Yes, Tony, my greatest goal in life is to punch the heck out of half of my friends,' but now was neither the time nor the place. "No. I'm not." He paused, waiting for one of Norman's goons to sucker punch him or something, like he felt had to be coming. |
Thor | Thor stepped up, looming a little extra over the assembled mass of costumed people. In case they wished to 'have words' with his friends. "You wish to lay down arms?" he asked, looking hopeful that they could put this nonsense behind them and beat up the annoying knave with the strange hair. |
Constrictor | "Are we talking or fighting here?" Constrictor demanded, so not about this weird little pause in the action. He wasn't getting paid to stand around, you know. |
Miss Marvel | To which Carol responded by zapping him in the face. "Anyone else want to object?" Anyone? C'mon, give her a try. |
Captain America | Oh, good, the news cameras were here. And Clint, who had started to raise his hand in response to Carol's question, had either put it back down or had it yanked down by Jan. Steve really didn't care which. He pulled his cowl back and started talking. He had rehearsed this, yes. "Someone reminded me of why we fight. Of why we have not spent our lives hiding from the good we can do to help our fellow man. Even in the face of fearmongering--" from certain people "--we will continue to do just that. I cannot agree with or support this Act, not when it would have good Samaritans be drafted into government service against their will just for trying to do the right thing. And I won't leave people people in danger because it's the lesser of two evils, or expedient, or because it serves the greater good. I don't compare the act against something else, I see someone who needs help... and I help. I won't stop that because of an Act brought about by fear and ignorance. But I also won't give up my faith in the very people who brought this about. That they'll see reason and understand that this is not the way to lessen their fears. That is why I came here today to surrender myself over to their judgment." You know. Before Norman Osborn showed up and picked a fight. |
Sabertooth | Okay, Victor had been promised the chance to kill idiots in capes and put down Wolverine. This was putting a huge damper on that plan. "What." |
Iron Man | Tony relaxed just a little, but it was still more than he had been able to since this whole thing started. He took a step forward, toward Steve for solidarity. "Steve..." It was a good speech. And everyone was lucky Tony had a helmet on so no one could see Tony fanboy the crap out of him for it. |
Wasp | Jan let go of Clint's hand to fly forward quickly. "I told you he'd listen," she told Steve smugly. |
Norman 'I'm the Green Goblin' Osborn | It was going to be hard to listen to much of anything with the way a helicopter suddenly entered the scene. As it landed, several SHIELD agents and members of the Secret Service poured out of the chopper, weapons drawn. And following them was Norman Osborn, looking ecstatic. "Thank you for finally seeing reason, Captain. You're under arrest. Someone read him the rights he's so fond of." |
Captain America | "There's no need for weapons," Steve said, loud and carrying, hands up. "Honestly, the way you people keep escalating this..." yeah, he was just going to let that hang there. |
Beetle | "All of us are weapons. That's the whole point, boy scout," Beetle said, landing to fall in line with the SHIELD forces. |
Iron Man | Bitch, please. "You can call off your attack dogs, Osborn. He's turning himself in." |
Norman Osborn | "And what about the rest of these underground Avengers?" Norman asked as he went in to cuff Steve. "Are you following the Captain's lead, or are you going to continue to be fugitives? Because if that's your choice, my attack dogs have to be ready for the public good." |
Captain America | "They came here with me, didn't they?" Steve pointed out. What, did Osborn think he didn't tell them what he was planning? Although having Osborn's supervillain hands touching him had really not been in Steve's original plan. Ew. He wasn't even touching the part about Osborn's people having any interest in the public good, because it was too laughable. |
Iron Man | "I'll take care of them." Even if it meant calling in every favor he'd ever been owed. |
Norman Osborn | "See that you do," Norman said. "Come on, Captain. There's a special jail cell waiting just for you." |
Captain America | "Of course," Steve agreed, |
