Compared to pretty much everyone here, as well as several of his own future incarnations, Bucky was pretty much just a useless civilian. But he was also one who'd been in various kinds of tough situations. (Mostly thanks to one Steven G. Rogers.)
He wasn't very interested in staying where he was when the lights went out. So he went immediately with his gut instinct - which was to try and roll to the side, out of Death Adder's grip, trying to use the element of surprise to his advantage.
